The weekend

  • The rhythm of the weekend, with its birth, its planned gaieties, and its announced end, followed the rhythm of life and was a substitute for it.  ~F. Scott Fitzgerald
  • Weekends don’t count unless you spend them doing something completely pointless.  ~Bill Watterson
  • The only reason why we ask other people how their weekend was is so we can tell them about our own weekend.  ~Chuck Palahniuk

For those who were dying to know after my last blog, my parents ended up getting a 37” Vizio E370VL 1080p LCD HDTV.

They are quite happy with it so far. The difference for my dad’s vision from their little tiny 13″ RCA TV is amazing, of course.

We went to the Magic Kingdom and saw the Main Street Electrical Parade Friday night. This is my favorite picture of the night:

I was trying to be creative with the camera.

Saturday, we went and saw the new Karate Kid movie. Alexander and I both really liked it. It was longer than I expected at almost two and a half hours. But those two and a half hours were good. There were some slow parts, though. If they’d tightened it up during editing, I think it could have been even better. The beginning of the movie, I don’t think they made the emotional connections deep enough – like why the kid would fight at first – but after a while, it’s easy to root for the hero. The writing was okay, but the directing was pretty good. The mother annoyed me at times, though. I think an issue may have been the age of the characters – the main character is 12. In some ways, it helps, like the relationship of student to teacher, but it seems the script would have been more appropriate for a kid who was 16, which I think was the age of the character in the first movie. Still, it’s worth seeing, especially at the cheap matinee like we saw it.

The rest of the weekend has been filled with shopping and packing. I bought Alexander some new Converse, because his Airwalks were falling apart. They were only 2 months old, too, and had holes in the soles and in the canvas sides. I think the Converse are better made. And we got them at the outlets, on clearance, so they were affordable. Orlando can be awesome for outlet shopping. We hit up Target a couple of times – most recently for packing tape.

Did I mention that I was moving in 2 weeks? My lease is up at the end of the month, so I’m moving into a friend’s house. She’s renting us 2 out of her 4 bedrooms for cheap. We’ll be able to save money and pay off debt – maybe even get completely out of debt. It’s worth a little loss of freedom.

So that’s our weekend! I hope you’ve had a great one, too!
